Do you love thick crust (think Sicilian or Detroit) and DIY pizza night but hate to work of preparing dough days in advance and covering yourself with flour trying to make it a circle?  Then you’re going to love this.  Drop the pre-baked crust in the pan of your choice, add toppings, and broil.  Wait 7 minutes and you are the hero of dinner with a hot, fresh, sourdough pizza straight from the oven.  The rich flavor comes from Flaky's original long fermented wild yeast sourdough starter.  Here are a couple pro tips.

  • Use a deep dish pan and let cheese drip over the sides like a Detroit-style
  • Use fresh basil and mozzarella to make a Sicilian-style Margarita pizza mash-up
  • Cover in olive oil and fresh herbs for a quick focaccia

Flaky Pizza Sauce Recipe

Ingredients

  • 28oz can Tuttorosso Crushed Tomatoes with basil
  • 1/2 medium onion, minced
  • 5 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 3 tablespoon Italian Herb Seasoning (any will do)
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • Sugar or Splenda to taste (we use one packet of Splenda)
  • Salt to taste

Directions

Over medium heat, add oil to medium saucepan. Once heated, add onion and garlic and, while stirring, sauté until translucent. Add remaining ingredients, stir until mixed and simmer on low for 5 minutes. Remove from heat, let cool, and pour into a blender. Blend until smooth. Add back to saucepan and simmer for 20 minutes over low heat until reduced and thickened to your taste.

Top your pizza crust with as much or as little you want!  Pro tip, it's also a great dipping sauce.  Keep some to serve on the side for those extra saucy folks.
